baclofen for burning nerve pain?

I am hoping shoreline has an answer for this one~
I have been prescribed baclofen for burning nerve pain...40 mgs a day~
I have been to see an M.S. specialist but they are still unsure as to whether i actually have it or not~I have tried amitryptiline.nortryptiline..zanaflex..t opomax i was up to 200 mgs a day on this one and i was burning in the afternoon ..I took it 10 mgs at night and 100 mgs in the morn..doc just took me off of it..wouldnt go any higher..
So anyway i was wondering would this med work on the burning nerve pain in my neck and shoulders? I have nortryptiline as a back up for the weekend just in case...but i am confused why would he prescribe this muscle relaxant to me for these problems..I lifted a heavy pot of potatoes last march 50lbs of potatoes and 4 pans of water in it...thats when all of my problems started..I am also having pain in my feet now..I just got a cortisone shot in my right foot for burning nerve pain...I had ulnar nerve transposition about 3 months ago on the right arm...However i am still burning and they cant seem to figure out what in the world is wrong with me~
I am wondering if the baclofen works for me if i may just have a spinal cord injury...Since that is what it works on~
Well any advice you have to offer is greatly appreciated..
P.S.
You should get paid for all the work you do here...
im not kidding..This board wouldnt survive w/out you~

Thanks so much for any input~

Re: baclofen for burning nerve pain?

Hi whatamess I know what you feel with feet burning. Have you been tested for diabetes? The dr said that is the cause for mine. I had a MRI and do have some bulging disc that can cause it also. I`m afraid to take the seizure meds they make me have a weird feeling and I can`t remember things like phone numbers. I have had cortizone shots into my big toe and it did help the pain for about 4 weeks. I have arthritis in my feet as well as my fingers. I wish you the best take care........jb

Re: baclofen for burning nerve pain?

I take Baclofen for nerve pain and it's worked well for me for awhile now. I tried many anticonvulsants and tricyclics for my stabbing, electrical-type pain, but only Baclofen and pain meds help at all. A doctor told me to think of Baclofen working by turning down the dial on nerve activity, so the pain is reduced. It's certainly worth a shot--it doesn't have many side effects and if it helps your pain, that would be great!

Re: baclofen for burning nerve pain?

It almost sounds like Fibromyalgia I have the burning pain in my neck and sholders but also in the muscles of my arms and legs you might have them check that out.. My doctor gave me Lyrica for it but I am now at max..
