Exclamation Leg gving away causing me to fall.

this might sound like a silly question in here, but i would appreciate any answers...with my back hurting as it does and going down my left leg to my foot, why does my leg give way and cause me to fall? could it b/c my meds are making my nerves numb or what?

Re: Leg gving away causing me to fall.

Good Morning, Ppainterinlegoff

Well, I am not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV), but it sounds like it's your sciatic nerve that's causing the numbness. Each of your legs has a primary nerve that runs from your lower back down to the base of your foot. That's the "sciatic" nerve. When people injury their backs, expecially their lower backs, this never can be pinched. When a disk in hernitated, the insides of the vertebrae break thru it's containment wall (like those medical terms! ), which can then press against your sicatic. For some, it can cause severe pain that shoots down from the point where it's pinched, for others, it can cause numbness, depending on how/where/the degree of the material that's come out of the disk. I can say from personal experience that my right leg started to "slow down" while I was walking. My left leg would swing out at my normal stride rate, but my right leg took a few more seconds to get up to the same speed. It caused me (and causes) me to walk with a slight limp to this day due to permanent never damage.

I would really down the numbness is from the medication - it wouldn't just be isolated in your leg only if this was the case.

I would absolutely check with a physican if you haven't already done so!! Numbness is not something that you should ignore You may have damage somewhere in your spine that's causing this to occure.

I have this happen and have to walk with a cane and the pain is awful I just had a SCS implanted and removed but I can be walking and my legs just give way out from under me, I have permanant damage to my S1 nerve the only way I found out was when I had a EMG done.
