Hi Everyone
I would just like to say how happy I am to have found this board! It's great to have a place to talk with people who are also going to pain management and all the **** that goes with it. I guess I should give a synopsis of my problem, so here it goes.
I am a 34 y.o. female with kidney stones, primary hyperparathyroidism and osteopenia (loosing bone mass at lumbar spine, total hip, and radial forearm) I was Dx at age 9 yrs. old. I have had over 150+ stones. My surgeries are as follows:
30 ESWL (lithotripsies - this is where the stones are blasted and made into smaller pieces and then you pee the small pieces out. All of the ESWL'S is what has landed me in PM. They have destroyed my kidney. (99% of the ESWL were performed on the left, I've only had a few ESWL performed on the right.) I WILL NOT be having anymore ESWL.
6 major open surgeries for stone removal (some stones bigger than a quarter)
PCNL (percutaneous nephrolotomy) This is where they make a small inscision in your back by the kidney and remove the stone that way.
30+ Ureteroscopies (This is where they go up your ureter all the way up into your kidney).
25+ Cystoscopies (This is where they go and look all in your bladder.
Parathyroidectomy (They removed 3 1/2 glands - you typically have 4 of these glands. They control the calcium in your body.
That's everything (I think). Anyway, for pain relief I'm on the 75mcg. Duragesic patch and Actiq 800 mcg. for BT pain (up to 6/day prn.)
Well, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. I look forward to talking with ya'll! (yes, I do live in TX)
Take Care
