Trying tofind a PM doc,getting a little worried- - Pain Management Message Board

I am trying to find a doctor for pain management,my transplant doctor has OK'd it and will refer me but it's not going well so far.The one local that was suggested to me by a friend is not taking new paitients.I called a clinic that I used to go to and they are accepting new/transfers but when I got to talking to them they said they don't normally prescribe Oxycontin and that the amount I am on sounds too high.This is what I was afraid of,can I find someone who won't wnat to cut my meds to the point where I hurt all the time. Am I taking that much? I take 50mgs of Oxycontin twice daily,with Oxycodone for BT. At the clinic they said they use Neurontin and things like that; hell, I'm taking Neurontin already, along with the Oxy.

I'm all for taking something different if I get the same results.What worries me is some dr. decidig I'm taking too much and just reduce it leaving me to twist. Am I paronoid? What has been your experience? I'm sure everone knows that feeling of dread: When will I start aching and have no recourse? The whole thought is making me a little batty. Someone enlighten me.

Just wanted to make a quick comment about the pain clinic that says they dont prescribe oxycontin. IMO a PM clinic that makes comments like that and thinks that your dosage is too high before you even walk through the front door, I would avoid like the plague. I would want a clinic that doesnt hold those type of biases on medications. Every patient's situation is different and medication success. Keep on looking. You are doing the right thing by asking questions before making the appointment. You need a clinic that you wont have to fight with from day one. Hang in there. and keep making those calls. Liz
