update,family member stole OxyContin

Yesterday I called my nephews cell phone. He did not pick it up. I left a another message. I told him I was giving him one more chance before I took a police report.
this morning I went out to my car my door was locked. I usually don't do that at home. I opened my car and on the seat was my OxyContin bottle minus two pills.there was a note.
my nephew apologized for what he had done to me. He also begged me not to call the police. he did not want my sister to know.

I decided to inform my sister about the situation. She is going to get a professional consular. She begged me not to contact the school about this incident.we had a family friend a few years ago have their son rejected from the military because he was on antidepressants for about six months. why he was in school. She did not want this on his record. I agreed with my sister on this issue.

I want to thank all of you. I would not have given a second chance if not for your suggestions. I found a lot of compassion in this situation. I would like to thank you all for letting me be part of your lives. I think sometimes we forget how special you all are. your advice, experience and wisdom are incredible
I've also put my medication in my suitcase. I will purchase a lockbox. I used to use one but got complacent. Thank you for your support. mike

Re: update,family member stole OxyContin

I'm so glad everything went so well. orry if I sounded harsh, but I have a little experience in not feeling like you did enough for a family member. I Think you did enough.
I hope he's open to help and realizes the path he's choosing.
Very cool.....

Good luck, Dave

Thumbs up Re: update, family member stole OxyContin

I did not respond to your original post, because my suggestion had already been suggested and I just kept you in my prayers throughout the time. Now I am chiming in to let you know that I am thankful for the outcome in your situation and wish you and your family better luck in the future. Also, I would like to let you know that it was very considerate of you to not let it be put on his permanent record. It took more of a man from you to think of him and his future, even though he didn't think of you and your future when he originally committed this offense against you. Again I would just like to say Congratulations on getting you medicine back, but most of all to your courage, kind-heart, and thoughtfulness in this time of hardship in your life. Like I said before it takes more of a man to do that, then to just let someones future be totally ruined when there is still a chance for him to be reformed and now he will have a chance to be totally clean thanks to your thoughtfulness. Alot of kids turn back to drugs and things of that nature, once it becomes permanently on there record just for that reason, because there is no hope of ever getting it off anyways so what harm could something else do. (which everybody dont get me wrong, i do not agree with that assumption, I am just saying from there perspective probably). Sorry this was so long just wanted to put my 2 cents in and give you my opinion on your thoughfulness and caring in your time of hardship.
Sincerely,
Everyone on heres Friend,

Re: update,family member stole OxyContin

Mike, thank you for the update. You handled the situation wonderfully and with good resolution. I am happy to hear that your nephew took ownership in his actions and apologized. It takes good character on his part to do that. Most of all I am glad to hear that your sister will be getting help for your nephew. Good Luck to you and your family. Liz

Re: update,family member stole OxyContin

You did a great thing and I am so glad it turned out the way it did. No one wants to get the police involved and put a family member on that path with all the various ramifications. I am glad you told your sister. This way, your nephew stands a chance of getting help. I'm sure your sister wants to be able to help her son and this way, she has the information to go forward and get him to the right places and people for help. You did the right thing. Congratulations!
