does body treat 20mg Oxy same as 2 x 10mg Oxy's

Hi I've justed been RX'd 20mg long life Oxy, I take 3 times a day, in stead of taking 2 x 10mg 3 times a day, so that I have to ingest less pills. However I'm wondering does my body absorb or use the 20mg fast or in a different way than the 2 x 10mg doses? Anyone know?

you are getting the same amount, but instead of the pill releasing its contents all at once,it is just spread out over more time.this really helps in keeping those roller coaster ups and downs of your pain from happening.Switching to the OC was the best choice for me.it also alleviates that sudden rush of euphoria that can lead to other issues.if it is dosed properly, you should feel a good steady coverage of your pain.just so you know, you may require a few adjustments along the way til you hit that "right' spot with dosing/relief.I had many during the first two months of starting out on this.because you were used to getting a more instant relief as the meds you were on really gave the pain a 'big hit",you will probaly be needing to add more just to feel that sense of relief you once did with the quicker release type of med you were on.

just give it some time and be totally honest with your doc about any BT pain and whether or not you feel that your current dose is adequate.most docs usually will start a patient on only two times per day so you are actually a step ahead on that and that alone could make the difference as far as actually needing to raise the dose you are now on.

I hope this was helpful.just see how it all goes.marcia

Re: does body treat 20mg Oxy same as 2 x 10mg Oxy's

Hey Blaster,

If I understand your question correct; You used to take OxyContin 10mg x 2 threee times a day for 20 mg at a time. And now you're taking one 20 mg OxyContin TID. I think thats what you're asking.

If so, OxyContin releases approximately half of in contents at 0.6 hours and 6.9 hours. So in theory, a 10 mg tablet would release approximately 5 mg at 0.6 hours and 5 mg at 6.9 hours. And a twenty would release 10 mg at the same times.

So taking two 10's or one 20, should give you pretty close to the same. It may be off a little, especially as the dose increases, but probably not by much.

For me, at night (my third dose) I take 40 mg, this is what is prescribed. When I was in the hospital, they only stock the 10mg tablets. So they would bring me 4, 10mg tablets at a time. Seemed to work the same for me.

Hope this helps. Take care

spot on Aranger, I got my thinking head on after Marcia's answer and relised it shouldn't make much of a difference, so I appreacaite your confirming that more specifically :-)
