Talking Hey everyone

Sorry I haven't been on here for a LONG time. I have had horrible nerve pain and have been in the ER four times this past week and a half.

Why I declined with my pain is because I stopped acupuncture. I wanted to test it out and see if I didn't need it anymore. Well, wow, I was wrong!

I just had acupuncture on Tuesday and have been fine since. I also go in on Friday for acupuncture. Acupuncture is a God-send and I wil stay with it for as long as I live.

Just a question here too. My pain has been very bad today (not ER pain) and I have had 12 5/325mg of Percocet. Is that the max you can have in one day?

Hugs to all of my friends on here. I might not be on as much as I use to I just wanted to let you know that I think about everyone and stop by and read the board everyday.

God Bless and may everyone's pain keep stabilized.

Re: Hey everyone

Its 3900mg of APAP, which is reaching the 4,000mg ceiling you want to stay at.

Usually if you're taking it for longer than 2 weeks, you want to stay around the 2,000mg mark from what I've read here, and at other places.

I would say, yes 12 is pretty much as high as you want to go per day, and even then I wouldn't do that long term. I believe you aren't referring to it as a long term thing, just as something to get you through this rough patch.

What other meds are you taking?

Re: Hey everyone

If you are taking that much on a regular basis it is probably in your best interest to go with a longer acting medication that doesn't contain the APAP.
Interesting that the accupuncture worked for you, I've considered trying it but am allergic to surgical steel and worried I'd have a reaction to the needles.

Re: Hey everyone

Hi Gabe! good to see you back, I have been wondering how you were doing. I agree that 12 is the most you should probably be taking in one day, most doctors will limit you to 8 a day, but I dont think it will be harmful to get you over a rough patch. drink lots of water to flush all that apap through and avoid any alcohol, not only for the drug interaction, but because your liver has its hands full with the apap right now! Good to see you back on the boards, kiddo! Fabby-mom

Re: Hey everyone

Dear Gabe30,

Just so I don't get in trouble by not addressing your subject, the PDR literature states that 12 Percocet 5/325 tablets are usually the highest amount a person should take in a day. Bulletinboard and Kissa make good statements about not subjecting your body to that much APAP regularly, and Fabrashamx offers the good idea of drinking (water, that is) to flush the APAP out.

Now...I simply wanted to say that we have missed seeing your posts. Sorry to hear that your pain has spiked and landed you in the ER in such a short period of time! Did the ER help in any way? The ER here automatically labels a person as a drug addict or drug seeker if s/he complains of pain--even if the person's doctor calls or is called for verification! Do you mind sharing more of your ER treatment details?

I did not find relief with acupuncture when I tried it several years ago, but I am aware that many people do find relief from it. I am probably the guiltiest of all when it comes to dismissing modalities other than medication for pain relief.

Your "message" makes the best point, though. Often, it takes a combination of modalities to appropriately treat the pain patient!

We are glad you are back with us, Gabe!
