Difference between Vicodin 5/500 vs 7.5/660

What is the difference. When I take Vicodin 5mg, I dont get as much pain relief as the 7.5 mg why is that. Isnt the only differance is that the 7.5 only has 2 mg more. Can anyone explain?

The bottom line is that 7.5 is stronger than a 500. it has more hydrocodone in it so it should relieve your pain better as its stronger..

Yes but if I take 2 5mg would that work better then 1 7.5mg. It seems that the vicodin 7.5mg is better even though it only has 2mg's more which is wierd. Also I have been taking ultram, will the vicodin not work becuase of the ultram binding to the opiate receptors even though its not a true opiate. Can I take them both?

Re: Difference between Vicodin 5/500 vs 7.5/660

The 5/500 vicodin has ......5mg hydrocodone/500mg acetaminophen (tylenol)
The 7.5/660 vicodin has..7.5mg hydrocodone/660mg acetaminophen (tylenol)

Basically, you receive 2.5mg more of narcotic pain reliever along with 160mg more of tylenol. So, that may also account for a bit more relief besides the hydro. But be careful.....too much tylenol daily can cause damage to your organs. One thing you can ask your dr if you ever want to decrease the amount of tylenol to 325mg.....ask him/her if NORCO comes in your current dosage of 7.5mg hydro. I think I have read that it comes in as little dosage as 2.5mg up to 10mg. This is of course the hydrocodone amount in it.

Take care......Kitt

Doctor may also want to bump you up to oxycodone, which comes in a 5mg with NO apap (tylenol) in it at all. If you are getting added relief from the tylenol, your doc may want to add that seperately, although ibuprophin (advil) is a much better anti inflammitory and doesnt have nearly the impact on your liver. Good luck!
