Trazadone [Desiril] and Fentanyl - Pain Management Message Board

Is there anyone here who can help me with any info about these two drugs together? I am currently on the 50 's fent. patch, and ONE tablet of 100 mg. Trazadone at bed time for sleep.
Even though it is used as an antidepressant, it can be used for sleep as it is for me. I have heard conflicting reports regarding the two drugs used together, and the Trazadone was prescribed for me from a prior GP for sleep before I switched docs.
Funny thing is, when I asked the doc I have now about it, he said "No, its no problem at all to take the two together."
Then when I asked him about changing the script from the prev. doc to himself, so that all of my scripts would be under the same doc, he stated, " Oh, no, you dont want to take them at the same time...it can make the Fent. alot stronger, that what it would usually be."
I have noticed him "forgetting" some other things re: meds, ect. sometimes, but I wont mess with anything that could hurt or kill me, of course. He swears he told me the first time, that I shouldnt take the two together. Anyone have any input? Thanx!

i should think if the doctor gave it to you knowing you are on the patches he would know, but if you think you would feel better call a pharmacist.

The prescription was from before I started with the doc I have now. S i had asked the doc I have NOW that I had been prescribed the trazadone from the prior doc, and he said that it was no problem at all. THEN when the script ran out this last week, I stated to my prior doc, that since I was his patient now, would he write me a script for it. He THEN stated that he had told me that it wasnt a good idea to take the two. I was baffled since he had told me in the beginning that it was conpletely safe.
Whenever i start a medication, I am positive to ask about ANY drug interactions whatsoever.
I even remember our first appt when I told him I was on the trazadone from the prev. doc and he said there was N/p and now he staes differently. Sorry if maybe I bungled this, as I am very tired from all of the holidays~ Oh well, I wont take any chances, and thanks so much for the reply!~ Happy new Year to all!~

Always ask your pharmacist. They are trained just for that reason.

They will easily confirm any reaction problems.
