i am concerned. - Pain Management Message Board

my husband just had his bottom 4 front teeth removed surgically today and they immediately put his new bottom plate in. we knew they were gonna put the plate in but they have prescribed him 7.5 mg hydrocodone 2 tablets every 4 hrs! that seems like alot for someone who doesn't even take tylenol. i assumed 10mg was the max dose at one time. he is sleeping right now and still numb and getting relief from the anasthesia. he is 6'2" tall and weighs 240 pds. he's a very big guy. he is actually a bodyguard LOL. is this dose normal? should he start with one or am i being overly cautious? ty for any replies. god bless ev1, katy

by the way...my honey looks so handsome with his new teeth. he was so excited about this. we have saved for years for this. no dental insurance either. ugh i swear he was like a little kid going to disney world.

I had two wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 30 and the doctor had me take three percodan within 60 minutes to get over the hump and then it was one pill every four hours for a few days. I slept most of that time (as the doctor said I would). I have really bad bouts of abdominal pain now, but the pain associated with the extraction of my wisdom teeth (they had to be chipped into pieces, then extracted) was horrendous so I wouldn't be too worried if he can tolerate the dose.

I think he will be OK with that. I take 2 #10 percoset every 4-6 hours...plus slow release morphine. I think that he may be sleepy and woozy from it, but better that than to be in pain. You don't want to be in pain from tooth extraction.

Good luck....I think he'll do fine. If he looks that good maybe we should all visit where he works! LOL

Hi Katy,
I had the same thing done with my upper teeth 2 years ago. Not only will he be okay on that dose, He's really going to need it the next 2 days, First day isnt too bad cause youre still shocky and on the drugs they give during the procedure, but tomorrow and the next day will be rough, he has to go back in today or tomorrow and take it out and let the doctor look, right?

I did, and let me tell you, make sure he takes his pills right before you leave because pulling that denture back out almost made me pass out, even with all my other pain issues, it was bad.

But the good news is he should be feeling much better by the weekend, and I know what you mean, its so nice to have a smile again, we had no insurance either, and it was our extra income for an entire year, But I'm glad I did it.
