Tip for those in Hurricane prone areas - Pain Management Message Board

Hello all, Just thought I'd pass along somthing I read in the newspaper regarding insurance allowing early re-fills. I'm not sure if this is a new law but I was not aware until I read it. If a storm is approaching, once they declare a state of emergency, all insurance companies have to drop the rule of no early re-fills on medication. They have to allow you to fill (with a Rx) a 30 day supply regardless if you are due it yet or not. That way your not searching for a store thats open after a storm has hit, and as we know down here in florida, its friggin crazy after these storms hit. You cant even find a grocery store or gas station open until power comes back. Well thats my tip for the day!

oddly enough my sister-in-law just questioned that as she lives in florida, she was worried about her meds and her chemotherapy, said she was going to ask her doctors, so good post. thanks (even though I am not in a hurricane state)

excellent post. i am in florida too and i live about 2 miles from the ocean and about 1/2 mile from the river. i am on the central east coast and in 2004 we got slammed as many of you know. i had absolutely no problems getting early refills on meds. as a matter of fact my doctors office called me to let me know that they had called in my meds and i needed to get them asap.

please if you are in an area that may be hit, do not be complacent about this. after jeanne in 2004 we were without power for almost 6 days. there was nothing open. be sure to watch the news and be prepared. if you wait too long it WILL be too late.

right now we are watching DEAN. i sincerely hope it veers northeast and stays far away but if not my refill is due on the 24th. one storm model has it heading for the east coast of florida by tuesday. those of you here be sure to keep a close on this and make any calls to your doctor on friday or monday if it looks like you are in the path.

i just want to add that we all need to pray for those in hawaii. first a 5.3 earthquake and right behind it a hurricane. ugh god bless ev1 and be safe. morgy porgy

I will pray that you guys in Florida are safe. I hope it misses you! That was a VERY good post mudbone about the early refills. Def a good thing to know. i dont live in a hurricane state but know ppl who do and are in PM and cant go without meds for that long. I will pass along the info.

I know how it feels too to hit by hurricanes. We were hit by a devasting one in 1996 by the name of Fran there where areas here that didn't have power for 2 weeks. Then in 1999, we got hit again by Flyod which caused terrible flooding so don't forget then do come inland and wreck havoc as well. I live about 100 miles inland and Fran came as a big surpise to us because it was not suppose to come this far inland and no one was prepared. But my prayers also go out to those in the state of Texas because they have had it bad with flooding and now it looks like more is on the way. So please don't forget about those poor souls as well.
