I am 28 years old, 2 young children and self employed.
14 months ago I fell on stairs and damaged my coccyx. I have lived in agony ever since and 6 months ago the pain spread down both sciatic nerves leaving me in even more pain.
My doctor inititially put me on Co-codamol (codeine 30mg) which I took for about 9 months. He then upped my dose to 90mg Hydrocodeine continuous which worked well but took 4 hours to work. Then a month ago I went back down to Codeine 30mg due to constipation and the fact that the hydro took hours to work.
Still in agony I have had 3 appointments over the last week trying to get some pain relief. He now has me on 30mg Hydrocodeine 3 times a day which due to my tolerance is not even touching the pain and is much lower than my previous dosage.
I was referred months ago to a specialist however I am still waiting for an appointment. I have not been x-rayed so I don't even know what is wrong with me. I really feel that I am suffering neglegance from my doctor, who is not taking me seriously.
After 14 months and as I can only sit for 1 hour a day, my business is now facing bankruptcy. I am in a position where I have given up on doctors. I need to work and in order to work I need pain relief for at least 4 hours a day.
I have now decided to take things into my own hands and try to locate some pain relief for myself. I need to know which pain medication is relevant and where I can source it. I have asked my doc for patches or a single dose of MS Contin a day (Morphine Sulphate) but he said it was too much of a step up. The pain I am in seems irrelevant to him - what his text book says is more important.
If anyone can offer any advice or point me in the direction I would appreciate it.
I had similar accident many years ago. I was walking on a snow, on a very slipperry area. After I fell, I could not seat or walk for years. Yes, for years. I was young, 2 kids as well and did not have much knowledge what is going on. After years went by pain would stay and than leave, so I thought it was OK.
A year ago I had 2 level fusion L-4, L-5 S-I
Dr asked me after surgery if i ever fell and was in pain after. Of course! He saw so much old damage in that area that he was suprised I could seat or walk at all!!
Some days I could not get up from chair, I had to take time to slowly move my body to the end of the chair and only than could pull myself up.
I had MRI's done and it realy did not show much; discogram and than surgery only revealed the extend of damage (I had other damages from a car accident but on other levels)
