| Re: doctors questions
Hey Bev, Lyrica is just one of many anti seizure meds used to treat nerve pain. The manufacturer of lyrica just spent the money to do clinical trials on PHN and now fibro to get FDA aproval for that specific use. However, Anti-seizure meds and anti depressants have been used off label this very purpose for decades to treat PHN and other types of neuro pain and fibro. Just because it's the only one with FDA approval for this use doesn't mean that another anti seizure med like toppamax, tegretol, neurontin, gabbapentin and a dozen others aren't also worth trying. Even meds as old as dilantin work for some people.
So don't give up on the entire class of anti seizure meds just because The one that spent the most money doing a clinical trial doesn't work for you. Neuontin or any one of many meds may work better for you. Pain management docs have used meds from this class for decades because they do work. The fact other anti seizure meds havn't done a clinical trial doesn't mean Lyrica is any more or less effective. It would be like giving up treating depression if the one anti depressant someone tries doesn't help.
Good luck, Dave
