Hi, I'm new to this and I was just wandering if anyone knew of any pain managment dr's in Newport Richey, Florida or someone close by like Tampa. I live up North and plan on moving to be near family but I'm concerned about finding someone who will continue my treatment. I heard actually by both my pm dr and pain managment dr that it might be very hard to find one who will continue to prescribe my meds that I've been on for 4 years now. I;m scared to make the move if there will be no one to help me and info would be greatly appreciated . I want to move closer to my grandbaby and daughter and son. Sad to say that is the biggest obstacle I need to overcome.
Hi....moving when in PM is always terrifying!! Can you let us know what your current PM doc has you RX'ed to take every month and how long you have been taking it? you mentioned you are new to it so I am wondering.......also would help if you shared why you are in PM and need pain meds as well if you feel comforatable doing so.....might help us determine if a doc is likey to write an RX of what you take compared to what you are suffering from!
i have a few friends in that state so might be able to help and give you a name but cant promise anything! we cant post contact info for them on here so i might be able to give you a name of one and you look him up for a way to contact him yourself......if this is against the rules someone please tell me as well....i am rather new to the board and dont want to get booted or anything! so please a vetrean or moderator let me know if that is ok BEFORE i do so and get myself into trouble.
Hi Green,
Welcome to the pain boards! I live on the other side of the country from you, but I lost my long time doctor last year, and I know how scary it is! I found someone, and I know you will also!
Wvr, you can give a doctors name here, just not his website or anything. I know the name is okay.
Green, I look foward to reading more of your posts, and I hope you are able to find a doctor soon.
Your Friend, Fabby
I live in Southeast Florida and there is no shortage of doctors in Pain Management--You should not have a problem at all. I am planning on moving to PA in a couple years and worry about finding a doc there. I don't have any specific names of docs in that area of Florida, but I do know there are "Pain Management " clinics there--I use my primary and have never had a problem. I do also know that many of the PM doctors will not prescribe Oxycontin or anything that begins with "oxy"--there has been quite a bit of abuse apparently. If that is the medicine you use now, you may have to do some searching, but it is available and some docs do prescribe it. You also may have to go through the whole routine of low dose then gradually working up to your current dose, but that is to be expected--Take your records with you--have your current doc make copies of your records and also write a referral if possible--Good Luck--Roger
Thnks for the replies, I hve 3 bd disks, hernited (sorry a key not always working - bulging, I have arthritis, fibromyaligia and chronic pain and chronic fatique (dignosised - I had one procedure for my back called Idep - its were they heat sometype of wire and shrink disc - it worked for a little bit, but came right back. I have been on vics for 8 years from family doctor then switched to pain management 2 1/2 years ago - he put me on oxy 20 and 10 mg percocet for breakthru pain. I also get injections every 4 - 6 months sometimes more depending on pain. I hope this helps with info - if you need any more please let me know.
unfortunetly i live on the other side of the state from where you will be. i am sure you will be able to find someone here to go to. i live in a medium sized town and we have plenty of PM's here. try doing a search on the internet and make some calls before the move. maybe then your present doctor may be able to speak to your future doctor and you may have no worries. i fully understand your apprehension and fear. a good PM is hard to find but don't lose faith. if you have been with your PM for atleast 4 yrs. then it obviously shows you have a clean record and are a compliant patient. like i said try to make the arrangements before the move, it will make you feel better. gl and god bless, morgy porgy
Morgy, if you live on the other side of the state from Green does that mean you live near o let's say Central Fla or maybe even closer to the Atlantic? I'm trying to find a PM Dr here where I live and from what I gather they don't take anyone who isn't on insurance.I'm filing for disability and have to pay for my Dr visits out of pocket but my deal is I'm trying to get off the Fentanyl (patch) and am having a hard time doing it. I use Lortab for bt. If you're clsoe by I would love some help if possible. thanks
H, ws just wndeng if anybody else had any suggestions for me, maybe the people that responded at first?? I appreciate everybody who did answer me and I will try the suggestions they wrote. It's just a very scary thought especially when my own doctors think it will be hard for some reason they think florida is not on the same page as up north. Don't get me wrong they dont think I dont need them - they just think there are not as many programs or pain specialist there are they right? I would appreciate anyones views on this.
