Really hard to tell.
My wife had a pain like that in her neck once in 1991. She went to the chiropractor I was seeing, he helped her with two adjustments, that was it.
Try taking care of it first. Get a massage, take a warm bath, take alieve or ibuprophen, sip tea, sleep, stretch the muscles very gently while warm. Destress, decompress, heal.
Acute "back" problems - or neck, etc. - are about 95%+ of the time muscle only. They will heal by themselves or through physical therapy, massage, acupuncture within 3 months.
We are the exceptions here.

We are the chronic folks - long term, as opposed to the acute - where the normal advice on back pain does not apply. You may find more generic advice through articles at WebMD, etc.
Good luck! Go to the ER or doc if you have a lot of numbness, dizziness, pain is so intense you can't stand it, etc. In the meantime, be very nice to yourself and tell the world to go away for a while.
