which is more powerful codeine contin or oxycontin for pain
to my understanding Codeine is a schedule 3 drug when mixed with tylenol ie: tylenol 3, it is a schedule 2 drug by itself ( there is no codeine only meds in the USA currently) Oxycontin is schedule 2 mixed with tylenol (percocet) and still a schedule 2 when in its LA form "OxyContin". Oxycontin is still oxycontin when processed in the body (for the most part) but Codeine is actually turned into morphine in the liver Before it goes to work on your pain (this is called a pro drug at this point) but at a MUCH reduced mg than taking straight morphine pills. IMO Oxycontin is much stronger on a per mg basis than codeine but also depends on how your body tolerates and what your body "prefers" to help you. I hope this helps some and pls feel free to correct me if I am wrong in any of this but I believe it to be correct.
I'm from Canada and have never heard of anything called codeine contin. You can get straight codeine but its not prescribed much up here like that, mainly rx'd as tylenol 3, and its short acting therefore can't be a contin.
