Oxycontin Question.

I just got my refill today and noticed on the bottle it says Oxycontin 40mgs SA, The SA is throwing me off. I did get the BRAND name so maybe it has always said SA and the generics don't? I am just afriad I could have gotten short acting instead. what does SA mean?

Thanks, SS

Re: Oxycontin Question.

I just looked this up and found Oxycontin 20mg SA in a document under long acting narcotics. I assume it's for something like "sustained action." Short acting drugs are almost always indicated with an "IR," for immediate release. But be sure to call the pharmacist to be sure.

Re: Oxycontin Question.

SA is standard generic speak for sustained action plus their is no such thing as 40 mg IR, The strongest IR is the generic version of 30 mg roxicodone

Re: Oxycontin Question.

if you were actually told this was a "brand name" med, they were wrong.the brand name just simply states"oxycontin' and is made by perdue.only the generic versions will have something after the word,'oxycodone' like ER SA or any other way they can put 'long acting of".if they charged you an actual name brand price,i would be going back and having a chat with them about their practices.if you want name brand every time your doc has to write DAW on every single script.this is what mine does for me since i got sicker than hell from endo version(oxycodone ER) of OC.you just need to make certain you are not being charged for something you are obviously not getting.marcia
