Hey...I am new here, and I honestly forget how I ended up here...
I have a herniated disc with that lovely shoot-down-the-leg-and-butt pain! I have had several of the injections in my back and take meds as needed. I am rather young and we are trying to avoid surgery at all cost...
I have been reading and am confused on the whole 30 day refill policy. Am I supposed to be waiting 30 days? I have a Rx for Lortab 7.5 (60 pills) with 2 refills. The directions say take one four times a day as needed for pain. If I took 4 every day, that is 15 days worth...if my math is correct.
I have been reading on here that many of you have to go pick up your scripts from the doctor and can only refill every 30 days?? I don't want to get in trouble, but the whole 30 day thing was never mentioned to me.

If that is what your script says, you are correct. You can go get it filled in 15 days. What I do is keep mine filled exactly to the day when they can be filled even if I haven't used them. When I go see my doc I have to take all my prescriptions from all docs. If I have any of my meds left over from him, I put them in a plastic baggie and leave them here at home so that he does not cut down my quantity. I don't normally have any left over but just in case. Hope that helps
Hi Happy Flower and welcome. If you look at your prescription bottle or the paper work that came with it it should say how many days supply it is. I have found when it comes to drs. and refills, your best bet is to ask them. That way you both have an understanding on what's going on. gl and god bless, morgy porgy
the majority of people here actually are in pain management which is much different than getting a script from your primary doc.its the nature of PM.if your Rx states to take as needed and you do just that and run out in 15 days, well your doc will know that your pain is possibly more than he first thought and possibly make adjustments.just because it states to take every four to six,if you are not actually having pain ,you do not HAVE to actually take them, you know what i mean?you have an 'as needed' type of script and its kind of all in your hands here as far as you deciding whether your pain dictates a dose or not.in PM,every dose is pretty much set,and we have to go by that set dose amount.but the ins co on the other hand seem to think that every single script a doc writes is automatically for 30 days.stupid but true.its just an assumption they make til proven otherwise.but yours written the way it is shouldn't cause any real issues at the 15 day point, that is up to your doc to refill or not refill.hope they help, and welcome.Marcia

Thanks for the answers. I do appreciate it...after reading the paperwork...it did say D.S. 15! Suppose reading the paperwork before I asked might have been smart!!
I sure do hope I never have a horrid experience at a phamacy like many of you have had...I would start crying! How can a pharmacist be such a snot? Are they like that wiht Lortab or mostly with the heavier stuff?
My doctor is a Pain Specialist. I did have to sign a contract, but when she prescribed the medication, she told me to just take it as needed. If I don't need one at all for a week, that is great...but if I need four everyday for a month, so be it. I am hoping the injections along with some medicine will get things under control so I don't have the need for stronger meds...but we'll see. She did not mention a thing about urine tests or blood tests. Is that in every state or just in some? I will admit I did not read all the paperwork, just signed. She did go over the rules...no getting medicine from another doc, taking no other pain meds/mind altering meds other than what is prescribed by her...all that good stuff...
Thanks again! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
