Unhappy Increase in pain, feeling really down

Hi everyone,
I have really been hurting the last week or so especially with the changes in the weather around here. It snowed yesterday and we got 5" and it got really cold down to about 15 degrees last night. My pain was skyrocketing last night and I woke up several times. I know when this happens that the pain is starting to get out of control.

I am going to my doctor tomorrow thankfully and I am going to ask him to increase my patch. I know initially I got really sick when he increased me to the 50mcg patch but I had only worn the 25mcg patch for 2 weeks when he did it. I have been wearing the 37mcg patches for a little over 2 months. Last time I saw my doctor he wanted me to make an appointment to get a TENS unit to hopefully help my pain so I could get off some of the narcotic medications or at least cut them down. I have been through alot this last month, my girlfriend moved out and we split up, have been through 2 root canals with a lot of pain in my teeth and complications from that, my pain has been increasing, my depression is really bad. I am starting to stay in bed alot and only muster up enough energy to go to work. I know this is not good but I am starting to lose hope. I am hoping my doctor will understand why I have not made the appointment for the physical therapist to get a TENS unit and he will increase my patch even if temporary until I get the TENS unit. Thanks for letting me vent everyone. I need all of the support I can get right now.

Brian

Re: Increase in pain, feeling really down

Brian, I hope your doc helps you tomorrow. I know what it's like, when you get things on your plate that you aren't expecting. I think as cper's and iper's, we don't recover like everyone else so when we get these new issue's we don't have any energy to deal with them.

I too have a lot going on right now, a few "crisises"(sp?) and I am just really down. I have no desire to be "festive" and I just feel crappy.

I hope you feel better and good luck with your appointment.
Melissa

Re: Increase in pain, feeling really down

Brian,

I am so sorry your pain is bad, and your spirits are down. It is a vicious cycle. Sorry about the break-up too. You are going through a trying time right now. Talking to your doc is a good idea. I know the dental pain got old a LONG time ago! What do you do for your depression? I am just asking because I spent a lot of time "trying to deal with it myself." I finally tried Cymbalta. It's not a miracle drug, but it takes the edge off.

Either way my friend, it helps to talk about our down times, and I am glad you trust us here because we care and want to help. I pray your pain (in all areas) lessens very, very soon. Please keep us posted.

Your Friend,

Amanda

Re: Increase in pain, feeling really down

Brian...Just wanted to let you know I'll be praying for you as you see your doc tomorrow (and for the other stuff going on right now in your life). It WILL get better, just know that we are all here for you, and our prayers will lift you up, my friend. Pain can be an all-incompassing force in our lives sometimes, leading to depression as you said. Tell your doc that your quality of life isn't what it could/should be, and I really believe he'll up your dosage. You're not on a very strong patch, so you have room to move upward. If you aren't already, you might want to consider something for depression/anxiety. Just my opinion. Prayin' for you! Keep us posted!!

Re: Increase in pain, feeling really down

Brian, sometimes when it rains it pours, seems like thats the way it goes. To have to deal with pain on top of everyday life makes everything more difficult. tires you out. Don't let the pain control your life, which can be hard. Make youself get out of bed tell yourself this will pass, as explained to me by my doc. the way you deal with the pain can make it better or worse. I have found myself frustated this past week with things that are hard for me to do, or things I just can't do, & I have to stop & ask myself where will this get me? no where! I can't go back & relive yesturday or the day before & so on, so I am trying to program myself to think about just doing my best everyday with a better attitude. I hope your doc. understands about the tens unit, I know I have to call my doc today, I wiil run out of meds before my next appointment, I always live in fear he will not refill it, so I know how you feel, I would not make it one hour out of bed without my meds. Good luck, Sammy
