Update -Doctor's Appointment Earlier today - Pain Management Message Board

Hello,
I saw my doctor today and explained that my pain has been getting worse with the change in the weather. I did get scheduled for a TENS unit next week. However, he did decide to to up my patch to 50mcg. I am hoping that I will be able to tolerate this dose since I have been wearing the 37mcg for two months. I am sure most of you remember how violently sick I got when I moved up from 25mcg to 50mcg after only wearing the patch for 2 weeks. It was the same reaction as an overdose and scared me pretty bad.

I am going to try the 50mcg and see what happens. I do know that I will have to get used to the increased dose and that I will probably feel tired, maybe a little lightheaded for a week or so. I will keep everyone posted. Maybe I will finally be able to get off the Ultram which I so desperately wanted to do but I am taking one day at a time.

Glad to hear that your doc listened to you and hope that your increase helps your quality of life, not hurts it.

It's bad enough that we have to go through hell to get pain relief and we miss out on a lot of life due to our pain but we also have to take time out of life to adjust to new doses. We have to put our lives on hold because we don't know how we will be feeling one day to the next. Sorry for complaining.

Hi Brian - I'm glad to hear that the appointment went well for you and that the doc upped the fentanyl. I'm only guessing here, but I bet you won't have the same violent nausea you had when you first changed your dosage. Your body should be well used to the med and the increase shouldn't make you sick. But, in case it does, just remember that you need to get acclimated to the new dose...don't give up! You may need to ask the doc for something to take care of the nausea - I know there are prescription anti-nausea drugs out there. When do you plan on putting on the new 50 mgh patch?
