Update on "tolerant to meds cant take the pain"

Hi all,

Just wanted to drop a line and update you all. If some of you remember I was most recently concerned about being tolerant to my pain medicine OC 20mg x3 per day and not being able to take the pain anymore. I had also tried methadone x1 week and and went off it due to the HORRIBLE side affects. Today I spoke again with my DR and he once again did not want to up my OC or give any meds for side affects while taking methadone. He did however write my RX for brand name OC since this dose seem much more potent to my body than that god awful TEVA. He has also been very against writing for any SA anything for breakthrough pain, until today, Woo HOOOO! FINALLY, he gave me a RX for 8mg dilaudid and allows me a max of 2 per day. I can essentially double the amount of the RX for me since normally 4mg works well for me and if It does not work, then I will be able to take the whole 8mg and "knock the pain out of the ball park". I have now been with this Dr. for 8 months and I can honestly say that our PT And DR relationship has improved by leaps and bounds, I sure hope it stays this way and I have looked a long time for a DR that trusts and Believes in me. God Bless you all and hope we all find relief down the road.

I was just laughing to myself in my head here. Thinking how happy I am to have these "new" meds for BT pain and what not, but, in a year from now I will probably be griping to the same song and dance again when my Tolerance is through the roof and I cant "deal with the pain anymore". Well, until that happens I will enjoy what I have and I guess try not to take the BT unless I REALLY really have to, so my tolerance wont jack up so quickly.

GOD BLESS AND GOOD DAY!,

videogamecrazed.

Just be careful to not take too much. You should always have a slight amount of pain even on the meds. When you go above and beyond and completely have no pain then you will probably experience the "high" feeling which can be dangerous and lead to addiction very quickly. Just wanting to warn you so that never happens. I am glad you are finally getting the relief you deserve.

Brian

Hi Videocrazed!

That is WONDERFUL news, I am so happy for you.

I am on this combo of pain meds, OxyContin 60mgs x 3 day, with Dilaudid 8mgs x 4 day. This combo is realing working for me and I hope it works for you, too.

Thanks for sharing your story!

Take care,
Cpapp31
