Question about Cymbalta - Pain Management Message Board

Hi guys...I'm about to have my first appointment with the pain management doc, and I would like to ask about Cymbalta. I've heard it helps pain in some, but I've also read it could be hard to get off of. I don't know if Effexor is like it, but when I quit taking it (even as I tapered), I got these strange shock feelings in my head when I turned to quickly and I was dizzy and nausiated. Needless to say, it was hard to come off, but it was great for the time that I took it. What kinds of symptoms/effects would I feel if the Cymbalta didn't work, and I had to come off of it? Thanks in advance!

Hi Painaway,

After I got injured August 06, ruptured disc, Doc gave me neurontin, lyrica and cymbalta for nerve pain. Neurontin and lyrica did not help me one bit. Cymbalta worked great for me and I still take it. It is an antidepressant but is used to treat diabetic neuropathy. If I have to stop taking it he told me that it would require a taper but depending on how long you take it would determine how long the taper with no major withdrawal symptoms or side effects. He has never given me a reason to doubt him so I think he's right.

I also take Cymbalta, and while I ws very sceptical, it has helped my pain alot! Especially the nerve pain. Also, I am not so irritable and grumpy all the time. My anxiety has been better as well. Coming off has been one of my concerns as well. My fiancee and I hope to try to concieve and I will have to stop all my pain meds and Cymbalta. It worries me, but I just think about it this way. The Cymbalta is helping me right now. It helps enough to make it worth it later. If you think about it, we can say the same for opiates. Give it a try, and I hope it helps you too!
