Welcome to the board! In my opinion, you're going to have to find a pain management doc nearby. I don't think a PCP would feel comfortable prescribing that, but I may be wrong. You may have to get a referral, though. I'm thinking the best thing would be to go to the nearest primary care doc (or one you've already seen) and tell them your story. Any doc who has much sense will either refer you out or help you himself/herself. If you've been prescribed this by another doc, you'll need to get your records. I can't tell (by your post) if you've moved to a new area, or what, but whatever the story, you're going to have to sit down and honestly tell the doc what's going on. They understand that withdrawals from Methadone can be dangerous, I'm sure! I'll be prayin' for you!

Hi Tmc,
Welcome to the pain boards. My regular doctor is willing to prescribe methadone for chronic pain, It has become much more commom in the last few years, you may not even need a pain doc.

I suggest you bring everything you can to your first appointment, if your records are being sent from elsewhere, try and make sure they get there before you do, some docs wont prescribe until they see your old chart.

It can also help to ask your pharmacy to give you a 6 month print out of your prescriptions, to take in with you.
