Changing meds-MS Contin?

At my next pm appointment my doctor is going to put me on generic meds as much as possible because my wc is going to settle and I can't afford the brand name meds. Does anyone know if ms contin works as good as avinza. Also the xodol doesn.t work as good as it used to. What is available to work on bt pain. If I am presently on 90 mg of avinza, what will they start me off on ms.contin?

Thanks

Re: Changing meds-MS Contin?

Randy,

I've been on both and I think MS Contin works better, but that's just a personal opinion. One reason is that MS Contin is dosed more often, either 2 or 3 times per day, and I think it provides better coverage than Avinza at once per day.

Many of us that use either MC Contin or OxyContin find that it doesn't work well enough at the usual 2 times per day, and many docs are willing to dose it 3 times per day, which is still within the prescribing parameters.

Since Avinza and MS Contin are both morphine, your dose of 90mg will probably remain. I would imagine 30mg three times per day.

Good Luck!

steve
