Saw PM and he changed meds to longer acting. 30mg Morphine Sulfate ???

Hi Friends,

I saw my PM today and he changed my 8 percocets 10/325 to 30 mgs Morphine sulfate. 1 a day for a few days then up to 2 a day if needed. He said he hopes that it will help so I will not have to take the percocets anymore but I am allowed to use them for BT if needed. I took my first one this evening and hope it helps because I am in a lot of pain as usual.

He also ordered a bunch of labs because he was concerned about how long I had been taking the percocets because of the other ingredients in them. He ordered labs to check kidney and liver function and some Thyroid levels.
I also had to do a urine test but he told me not to worry that he did not think that I was doing anything that I should not be doing with my meds.
He wants me to do physical therapy which I am not real excited about but he said if it hurts me to discontinue doing it. I guess I gotta jump a few more hoops. What else is new.

He said he would like to see how I do on the meds and wait a few weeks longer and then do the facet blocks and rhiziotomy. Dont know what the rhiz part is but I will investigate that one.

So I went and did the blood work and the urine test right after his appointment. I also informed him I was now using a new pharmacy and I also let the pharmacy know that all the meds pertaining to PM would come from him. Just trying to keep everyone on the same page you know!

I also told my sponsor about the med change and she to hopes that this will help.

Hey everyone I really want to extend the biggest thanks to all of you!!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE WHEN I NEEDED AND WILL NEDD AGAIN I AM SURE. I APPRECIATE EVERTHING THAT YOU ALL HAVE DONE.

I have been getting out and walking even though it does elevate my pain. And since I am able to drive now I have made more meetings and have been able to be more independent. With that come more increase in activity and more pain but I have to say I am so grateful to be able to DO for myself even if it does hurt.

All of the people on this board are so special to me. Each and evey one of you that has directly posted to support me and those to who have only posted their stories and struggles have helped me as well and you all didn;t even know it.

I feel that this board is a great support tool for me and so many others. I have got to know some of you and feel very close to you. Thanks again for being in my life.

Chrissy

YAY Chrissy!!

I hope this will be the beginning of a new era in your CP saga. Hopefully you will be able to get the pain under control.

You may remember (I have a new name) that my doc switched me to Avinza 30mg from the Patch last month, and I was really leery about taking them. I am sooo much better off pain wise. I'm feeling better than I have in quite a while. I'm still have a some BT pain, but PM had talked about increasing Avinza to 60mg at next appt. (next week). I'm sleeping MUCH better, which helps with my overall frame of mind.

I hope the Morphine works for you. It has been a blessing for me. No more icky sticky stuff on my body, and only having to take MSIR 15mg once a day at most, and sometimes can get by with a half. YAY.

Blessings,

Chrissy:
A big whoooo hooooo and yeah. It looks like things are improving for a few of us on this board finally after many days of suffering. I guess through suffering comes great learning and gratefullness. Boy, have I really learned alot the last couple of months and really seen the power of prayer. I am happy that he changed your meds and I really don't think you have anything to worry about with the Percocet damaging your liver or kindeys. I was taking nearly 4000mg of Tylenol a day along with 2400 - 3200mg/day of ibuprofen for a year (self medicating non no) before going on narcotic medications and I am perfectly ok (at least liver & kidney wise, don't know about mentally hee hee). Good news though. YES!

Re: Saw PM and he changed meds to longer acting. 30mg Morphine Sulfate ???

Hey Brian

Thanks for responding.

I did need to take some percocets for break through pain today but only 3. Huge difference. The doc said to increase to 2 30 mg tabs of the Morphine sulfate a day after a coulple days so tomorrow will be the first day taking 2 pills, 1 every 12 hours. The cost difference is a huge plus for me. The morphine will only cost me 24 bucks a week as apposed to the percocet that was costing me 88 bucks. Yippeee!!! for that.

I think I over did it this last week with all the walking and on top of that having my driving privilges back has of course made it so I am able to be out doing my own errands etc. So today I did not do much at all. My body is screaming for rest so I have been on the couch most of the day working on my school work.

Tomorrow I have a sponsee coming over to share some of her 4th step so I am sure that will be physically a bit tough on me. Unfortuantley I also woke up with a sore throat and hope that it does not turn into somthing more than that.

I was supposed to make some phone calls about tryong to get to PT but I need to call my attorney first to ask what and which insurance it should be done with or if on a lein basis. I just did not have a lot of energy to feel like doing it and have put it off until monday. I also have a Thyroid Doc (endocrinologist) on Monday and hope that goes well.

I do have some hemangiomas on my liver that are sort of big but I do not think they area anything to worry about at this time. The bloodwork will tell more.

The real test of the new meds will be when I go to class on tuesday. So keep your fingers crossed.

Chrissy

Hey Chrissy: I'm so glad you have finally got something long acting. I know it changed my world for the better. Just don't get discouraged if you get a little sleepy the first week or two. That is common and should go away soon. Just wanted to say congrats and God Bless. cmpgirl
