Does anyone else take 3 LA meds/day? - Pain Management Message Board

Hi All:

As I mentioned in my "constipation" thread, my PM decided 3 months ago to change my Oxycontin from 2x to 3x/day. I know it has made a huge difference for me, especially my mornings. And it has enabled me to cut back on my BT meds, too.

Even though the literature says 12 hours, I really think, at least in my case, it never lasted more than about 8. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

Gah I wish when my doctor gave me the choice of adding another LA or BT that I had went with the LA.

Hi, I am on oxycontin 40 mgs 3 times a day. It really helps me too.

When I was on OC, I was bumped to 3x day. It really helped. Many report that it just doesn't last 12 hours. My pharmacist confirms this and says that most say the same thing. I agree with him when he says that if that many people all say the same thing, there must be something to it. You're lucky you have a compassionate Doc who really cares....Many Docs won't script OC, much less 3x day.

Good Morning all:

I really am lucky to have the PM doc that I have. He always makes me feel like he really cares, and my past PM always acted like I was just a bother to him. I've heard he treats all his patients like that.

My current PM talked about upping me to 3x/day about a year ago, but I was concerned that, being in my mid forties and this whole pain thing not ever going away, I would max myself out, so to speak, and have nowhere left to go down the road. When he brought it up again this year I told him that and he said I didn't need to be worried, because 20mg of Oxycontin, 3x/day was not as much as I thought it was. So this time I agreed. And I have to say I'm really glad I did.
