Question about pain meds - Pain Management Message Board

I am on Ultram and Vicodin for my back pain. I've been taking the Vicodin since last Thursday and it doesn't seem to be working. I called my doctor yesterday to let him know that it isn't working well and don't want to take more than what is prescribed. He has yet to call back. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Should I call him back again today or just deal with it?

HI,
I would call the Dr. back and not stop until you get some help. Never change your meds without your DR. knowing and advising the proper dosage. I have a high tolerance to vicodin ( up to 2 extra strength at a time) But the amount of the tylenol in it is big time bad for your liver, I never knew that until my dr. told me that. So any increases should always be by the doc since we don't always know what the pills really contain that can hurt us.

I did call my doctor back today and I talked to his nurse. She said that she would talk to him, but wouldn't be able to until tomorow. She did ask me some questions about my pain, like rate it from 1-10 and I told her it was about 7. I told her that I didn't want to take more than what I'm supposed to and she said that it was good that I did call. So, I guess I will just have to take what I need to today and then wait for them to call back tomorrow. If they don't call by noon tomorrow then I will call them.
