Pain meds get caught in throat!!!

I have been having a problem where my meds get stuck in my throat, especially on the right side. I usually have to guzzle water and move my head at different angles for it to go down. There are times that I physically have to take my finger, push the pill up a little On my throat(from the outside, not down my mouth) and swallow. It feels like it gets caught on a flap or something and can't get passed? Any ideas on what this might be? I did a little research and though maybe LPR(laranxphy?? reflux) but I am not sure about that. Does anyone else have this problem here. I know another problem to have and maybe some of it is MAJOR, MAJOR anxiety that I am having and can't get under control

Re: Pain meds get caught in throat!!!

Hey Brian.....Try chasing it immediately with a bite of food. Also, you may try to put the pill on your mouth and before you swallow, take a gulp of water and swallow the two together. Many people put the pill in their mouth, start to swallow, and then chase with liquid. The problem being that the pill gets partially stuck before your chase with liquid.

Hope this helps. If you're doing these suggestions already, I'm not sure what you can do.

Re: Pain meds get caught in throat!!!

Is there an actual lymph node that is on the inside of your throat? I can actually pin point the spot and it is sore and feels kind of like when I get those "white chunks" on my tonsils that I go in with a q-tip & listerine to rid myself of. I know it is unpleasant but sometimes they get there. I wish that my doctor would have taken my tonsils out when I was young, and they were so close to doing it considering how much I used to get strep throat. I just wonder if that mouth infection, followed by the flu, may have just seriously "taxed" my lymph nodes because my lymph nodes have NEVER completely gone down in the last 4 months along my neck/throat/ear area. Any thought would be appreciated

Re: Pain meds get caught in throat!!!

I was eating peanuts while reading your post and I now have one stuck in my throat! Seriously! I have this problem a lot. I used to cut my percocets in half because otherwise they would get stuck. Luckily, my doc switched me to oxycodone without the apap and they are much smaller.
I hope that if it is your lymph node that you finally get healthy and the swelling goes down. You've be run through the mill lately!~Mush

Re: Pain meds get caught in throat!!!

OH I hate when that happens! It depends on if the pill is coated or just plain. There are some pills that we take that are just terrible to swallow because there is no coating on the outside so they just want to stick to the roof or in the throat...hate that! You can try putting it in honey or jam or pudding/yogurt or something to help you swallow or just something like a fruit juice helps rather than plain water.
