Methadone making me stupid (er) lol - Pain Management Message Board

Hi Gang,

I have really noticed that I am becoming quite careless and forgetful on the Methadone, I am wondering if you all think it's because its just stronger than what I took before (tramadol and lortab) and I will get used to it?

I get halfway to the grocery store and forget my purse and have to turn around.

I had coffee with a friend on her patio and realized as I was pulling in to my house that I had left all my shopping sitting at her house, including meds, which is NOT like me, even though there were no narcotic meds, and my friend wouldnt take them, I was just shocked, If I had my methadone in a bag, I would have walked away from that too.

I am scared I will lose a prescription or my purse and we all know what a nightmare that is.

I forget things in the microwave, or I will go into another room 5 times each time forgetting what it was I wanted.

Anyone else have this happen? does it get better? any ideas? I love this med and do not want to go off it.

Fabby,

I really don't think this has anything to do with the methadone.

It's probably just a character flaw.

I think it's time you went in and had a subcutaneous GPS device installed so friends and loved ones can track you down when you're off on a "mini vacation."

PS-Fabby, everyone reacts to methadone kinda like this, with their own special idiosyncrasies. What you get used to is having to take special care in situations like this one. You just learn to be extra careful, that's all.

Pepper, you were smarter than I am to begin with, so you'll be fine.

I wonder if I could have a computer chip installed like my dog has so he doesnt get lost?

Thanks Steve and Pepper, glad to know others have the same reaction, I guess I just need to remind myself to always double check.

Fabby,

I was already forgetful before i used methadone. So, for me it really was hard to tell if little mistakes like that were from the meds, or just me.

The one side effect that bothered me most was the propensity to doze-off. Didn't matter where I was or when it was. It there were more than a few minutes of idle time I was a goner. I'd even fall asleep on the throne. Watching movies became a thing of the past because I couldn't stay awake no matter how interesting it was.

And when I dozed off I would dream. When I would "come to" it wasn't unusual for me to continue a conversation that I was having in the dream. The looks I'd get were priceless.

Bottom Line - Best pain relief in the world.
