Can different brands of the same meds, make a difference

Is it possibly to have side effects from a different manufacture of the same med. I have noticed today I am feeling as if there is something crawling in my skin........... also like a feeling of panicing now that my routine is changing .... I have a constant feeling of need to pass urine, even 5min after been, and still have a large amount to pass when I do go.

I have been takeing amytriptlyne and the oxycontin but noticed that the last two days supply have been a different manufacture and deeper colour. I am wondering if this is the cause. I have never felt like this on them but have noticed aswell that I am not getting the same relief either. Is this possible?

Has anyone found this on the same drug but a different manufacture making a difference

Round1

Re: Can different brands of the same meds, make a difference

yes there are some major issues with different brands of thyriod meds some have dyes in it or fillers i seem to react to badly.
Also i had a horrid allergic reaction documented to the Watson patch and did just fine with the mylan . Keep a journal notebook write down the brand name and dosage and try for a different brand next time.

Re: Can different brands of the same meds, make a difference

Round1,

yes, I had same experiense with different brands. I even called my Pharmasist to confirm this. She said that it may happen, that some people complain about it and some not.
I noticed that Oxy of prevous brand I was on did not work on me as well as the new one.

I did not have any side effects due to change, but definitely I see changes in how it works for me.

The symptoms you share about your bladder I have every single minute of the day since my first fusion. I have this due to nerve damage...
I don't want to scare you, honey, I just want to let you know that maybe this new symptom needs to be checked?

All the best to you and feel better!

Re: Can different brands of the same meds, make a difference

This can be due to the effects that narcotic medications have on our urinary tract. I have figured this out when my fentanyl patch starts to wear off or it does not release at the same rate. I will get the need to urinate and it will be alot several times in a couple of hours.

I believe that since your brand of Oxycontin has changed that it may not be releasing at the same rate. You should ask your pharmacist why they gave you a different manufacturer. You may need to request BRAND NAME ONLY in order to not get this effect. Also, you are probably getting the panicky, jittery effect because the rate of release is not steady. If you get a big dose of oxycodone, this effect will happen.

I would suggest going back to the brand you were taking before. I know that in the US we are allowed to request certain manufacturers. I don't know if that is true in your country or not. Just my suggestions

brian
