Pain Pills that don't contain Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen?

I think I am having rebound headaches from the vicodin I am taking. I am only taking 2 or 3 pills per day (5/325mg) but I have woke up with a headache every morning for three weeks and now am starting to have them at night too.

Last year when I was not on the vicodin, I was taking tons of motrin for my back pain. I ended up getting Rebound Morning Migraines where I would vomit all day long. It was horrible.

I don't want to go down that road again, plus these headaches on top of my back pain is really getting to me.

What else can I possibly take for my back/sciatica pain?

Thanks!

Sorry to make this so short...Im flying out as we speak. Look into "Compounding". Ive been getting my hydro and oxy compounded for about 2-3 yrs. I think its more pure and works better as well. I had problems with dyes and fillers AND the prices of reg meds. My compound meds are 1/10th the price of the reg meds. Ill answer any questions you have when i return on friday. check it out!

Re: Pain Pills that don't contain Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen?

There are some pretty easy choices available, almost everything except hydrocodone comes without the tylenol, these two are examples. Tramdol comes without the tylenol as does Oxycodone. For some reason they do not make hydrocodone without the tylenol or iburprofen. Tramdol is not as strong a medication as hydrocodone and oxycodone is stronger. I'd get an appt with the Dr. and explain that you are having problems, it's probably the tylenol portion of your pain medication causing it, and would like to try something without the tylenol.

Re: Pain Pills that don't contain Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen?

Are you sure it is vicodin? The reason I ask is that to my knowledge vicodin does not come in a 5/325 combination. There is a medication called Norco that has the same active ingredient (hydrocodone), and 325 of tylenol, but I only know of a 10mg pill. I may be wrong, but check your script and let us know.

If it is oxycodone instead of hydrocodone, your options are better. I am currently taking oxycodone without tylenol due to increased pain and taking the max amount of tylenol in percocet that I am already taking. It comes in many strengths, including 5 mg. I would discuss this with your doctor.

As I had posted earlier, I would also stop all use of over the counter meds for a significant amount of time to eliminate any other causes of your rebound headaches. Another option is a headache specialist. Either way, I hope you get some relief very soon!

Your Friend,

Amanda

Re: Pain Pills that don't contain Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen?

Here is what my prescription bottle says:

HYDROCO/APAP 5-325MG (is this generic vicodin?)

Mfg: Mallinckr

I am not taking any other over the counter medicine. As for a headache specialist, I saw one last year when I was having issues with the Morning Migraines and we determined it was the Motrin causing them. I stopped them the motrin and until now, never had an issue.

My headache was barely there this morning, so I will watch it closely and see what happens. It's good to knw there are some other options available out there my current meds don't work.

Thanks!

(sorry for the typo's....my 2 yr old is sitting on my lap)

I sometimes get the headaches from it too. Sometimes caffeine helps, sometimes it doesnt. I also think the headaches may be from fibro in my neck, under skull area. Im going to ask next week how high up trigger point injections can be given. Im scared with them so close to my brain but worth asking I guess. They come and go for me but when they hit its bad. Having someone massage the area helps. Then it seems I can pop my neck and relieve some pressure.

10sox,

That sounds like Norco not Vicodin...I take the same thing for breakthrough pain, normally it comes in a 10mg formula, but I've had it in a 5mg before. Docs usually give this because it has less tylenol than the other Hydro meds. Mallincr is also the maker of the Norco I take, I just looked on the bottle.

Just an FYI, my doctor told me that "they" don't do trigger point injections in the neck, because there is not enough muscle tissue to absorb, and because there are too many blood vessels and other important stuff running through there. I asked for an injection last time near the base of my skull and she wouldn't do it. Your doctor may have a different answer, but I thought I'd let you know.

Thanks. I wonder if they are migraines or what? I was scared of having them so close to my brain anyway but when they hit they are terrible. Not the issue today but never know when they will hit.

I just wanted to say that it could actually be the generic brand: Mallincradt. They are notorious for producing a crappy product and the Vicodin I took of their caused my headaches but other generic brands did not. You may want to ask for a different generic or the Name Brand.
