hydrocodone in blood - Pain Management Message Board

I am going for a job physical in 5 days.I have a vicodin script for back pain. I really don't take it much and don't want to even mention it at the physical. So will it show up? How should I handle this since I took one pill (5/500) yesterday. Thanks,Skip

I would not mention it as it will open up all sorts of dialogue on the subject. Many companies have policies now about employees and controlled substances. If it happens to show up, you can mention it then. You can always say you forgot since you take it so infrequently and since you have a legal script, there are no issues. I'm afraid, however, if you mention it, that you may be disqualified for employment. They can choose not to hire you for any reason....And a potential employee testing positive for Vicoden is as good as any....Especially if you factor in potential health care costs down the road. I know it's a tough subject, but one that must be discussed. Please don't judge.

I seriously doubt it will show up in your system....Normal pass through for hydrocodone is 36-48 hours in urine....Less for blood. It will show up in your urine longer than blood. You should be fine. Even if it's all not eliminated, the small amt will fall way below the "threshold" of the detection on the test.

Read what Executor wrote again! Don't open any of these "doors" unless it is absolutely necessary.

Years ago (back in 1994), when I was chronically on Stadol Nasal Spray for truly hideous migraine headaches, I had to go in for a pre-employment physical and drug-screening. I started to bring this up to the nurse, and she halted me in mid-sentence. She said that she did not want to know anything, because she did not want any sort of "bias" placed on the situation. As well, she whispered to me that she did not think Stadol was something being searched for by their particular test. So, SHUT UP was here suggestion. I took her advice, and did not bring it up to the doctor. I never heard a word about the Stadol Nasal Spray, and I got the job!
