Does dilaudid and hydrocodone work alike?

Because morphine was making me have awful side effects and not really controlling my pain my doctor has decided to up the amount of dilaudid I take each day. My question is does hydrocodone and dilaudid work the same?

The nurse said that they do. I don't know if its going to control my pain since the morphine and it was not taking care of it. I just know that I feel so much better being off the morphine for just a few days I have an appetite, am getting my strength back, and I am not lightheaded anymore. The profuse sweating(then chlls) has really slowed down, I went thru so much laundry, showers, people looking at me asking me what is wrong with you?, etc.

I just don't want to get back to where the pain was so uncontrollable I didn't know how I would make it another hour.

Again my doctor is trying to make sure that I don't have too many different meds in my system when I have my surgery in November. I just want the pain controlled and I am starting to feel the burning in my hip joint again because I am off the morphine this weekend.

Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
