| Re: pain management
Hi Starz, Personally I don't think asking for specific medications is a good idea. He's the doctor, He knows what's available. He doesn't need his patients jumping on line to pick the next med they want to try or simply sugesting their favorite.
It's best to explain your condition, how the pain is still effecting you despite the meds your taking and ask what eslse can we try. If your in pain, you need to tell him you are in pain, Not what med you think he should prescribe. I know it sounds sarcastic, but our docs really don't need our input when it comes to med selection. As much as we like to think we know about the meds we have read about and may have used in the past, particluarly opiates, the doc still knows more. What he doesn't know is how the present meds are working, so that's the info you want to relay. If it was another class of drugs that you had sucess with, I would say absolutely, tell him if Lyrica or cymbalta helps, but when it comes to the pain meds. Stay the patient and let the doc be the doc. He knows what stronger and longer acting meds are availabale, what you need to do is explain how the present meds are working and explain your pain in a way he can understand so that he can do his job and make your pain more manageble.
Good luck, Dave.
