Does anyone know what the difference is?

Does anyone know what the difference is between hydrocodone and codeine? Also, if my doctor said that the amount of codeine in tylenol #3 was comparable to the amount of codeine in vicodin- did she make a mistake. If there is no codeine in vicodin then how could it be comparable?

Re: Does anyone know what the difference is?

Codeine vs hydrocodone vs oxycodone are all derivatives of narcotics. each one stronger than the one before. Codeine is not as strong as hydrocodone which is not as strong as OXYcodone

There is a difference between tylenol #3(with codeine) and vicodin(which contains hydrocodone). They are comparable in strength so I think that is what your doctor meant by they are the same. They are the same in strength. I get way too drowsy on tylenol #3 but I don't have the same side effect with vicodin but everyone's body reacts differently.
