Re: how long does percocet last

I take percocet for break-through pain. It takes about an hour before I feel any relief, and it lasts about 3-4 hours. Usually, the first dose does not provide adequate relief, but after I take the second dose 4 hours later then my pain is reduced to a manageable level. Sometimes when I take two doses of the percocet, I am good for the rest of the day and don't need any more BT meds.

Re: how long does percocet last

It depends on how long you have been taking it, how much of a tolerance you have, your body chemistry, etc. However, if you are just starting to take it then it should last 5-6 hours.

As the others have mentioned it really does depend on many factors that you can imagine. I use them for BT pain as well and usually gives me relief in about 20-30mins and lasts for 3-4 hours sometimes longer. This is how it goes for me but people may find they get different results.

Same for me... that first dose barely does it. Dose 2 makes it managable. Good relief for around 3 hours then it starts to taper off.

Re: how long does percocet last

For me its usually 3-5hrs. I am the same at times I dont get enough relief to do much until the second dose of the day.
Although for me percocet worked alot better then some other pain meds I had tried. I like the percocet because its one pain med you can half. Which I I had ask my doctor about. I always try to take the least amount so if I am really starting to feel some pain in the middle of the night or right before bed I take 1/2. I can usually do ok as long as I am laying down. Hope this helps, Sammy

Re: how long does percocet last

I have used Percocet for the last 5 months for pain and I'm in the process of detoxing and tapering down now to get off of it. I found that the first dose in the morning would start to take effect in about 20-30 minutes and would last about 4 hours before the pain increased to where I needed to take another tablet.

I hope that helps you out.

Re: how long does percocet last

It's all about tolerance. For those who are relatively new to PM and haven't taken many meds, a Percocet can last upwards of 6 hours. Most med labels say to take this type of med every 4-6 hours.

For those who have been on meds for a while, 3+ hours is about the norm. And, for those who have been in PM for a long time and have taken more powerful meds, it may only last 1-2 hours, tops.

So, it really is a tough question to answer as it's individually dependent. Also, one's body weight and metabolism is also a factor. It's always best to work with your Doctor closely on this type of thing as each person's individual characteristics are in play.

Regards,

Ex
