Oxycodone

What is the deal with the shortage of the 15mg and 30 mg oxycodone. You hear that there is a recall.

All I know is alot of people are going to be withdrawling and getting very sick. Methadone is not a option. Been there done that and Methadone is one of the hardest meds to get off of. It ets in your bones and your SICK. Either the manufactor has to get it together or every bed in detox will be taking. Anybody know where you can find Oxy's? I've driven the whole state of Fl looking and can't fill my script. No sence in going to the Dr to get a piece of paper you can't do anything with.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Oxycodone

I filled my script for 15mg oxycodone last month. I had called in my regular scripts, and the pharmacist is very familiar with me. He called me just prior to leaving home asking me if I was bringing in my usual script for oxycodone when I came to get my other meds and I told him Yes, He said he had 4 more pills than my usual amount and stated that their was a state wide shortage and that was like 25 days ago. I am scheduled for another refill in a few days, so looks like I need to call myself, but this is a real problem as he brought this to my attention over 3 weeks ago, so this is a FOR REAL PROBLEM. I guess if he can't fill it, I am going to have to get my PM doctor to change mine to something like Lortab or whatever the doctor recommends to combat my pain until this shortage is over. Darn I hate to hear that you are having problems, because I will encounter the same if it is affecting you and it is March 1st. Hope this helps as it was a real problem last month for me, as I got all but 4 pills myself almost a month ago. Good Luck.

Re: Oxycodone

just wanted to thank you ex, for the great in depth explanation you gave on that other thread. i got hit with the 5mg oxy crap this last time around and man did this suck. i had to get another Rx for something else, that turned out to also be made by ethex too so of course my WGs did not have that one either. geez i was going crazy there for a while.

what suprised me tho was what my NP Rxed me in place of the usual 5mg oxy IR? i was actually given a Rx for MSIR 15mg. since my pain clinic will not Rx ANY meds that contain tylenol, she told me the MS was the only other option i had for BT pain. is this even comparable? i was just wondering since the 5mg oxy, well we started to become tolerant to it like about a year ago(4 years on this dose)? i was having to take both of my precious allotted two oxy 5 a day together(with the knowledge of my NP)leaving me only one real true BT med. my NP/pain clinic is really stupid in that they will not accomodate tolerance in BT meds? insane i know. but she never told me i even HAD an option of trying the MS back then either. this stuff has been simply amazing for my BT pain. it actually works really well and i only have to actually take one little pill at a time. i am hoping right now that i will be able to actually stay on this after the 'crisis' is over.

the only place i had luck with finding even the MSIR was at the 24 hour WGs here in MN. this really is the best place to look for any meds that other pharms may not have? according to what the pharm there told me is that the 24 hour pharms are just more likely to use more than one manufacturer and just simply stock more overall since they ARE open 24 hours and many people go there after leaving the ER at 2:00 in the morning? this is a good place for anyone to try who cannot find their meds at a regular pharm right now. this was a suggestion he just mentioned to me while we talked about this stupid shortage recall crap. i just wanted to pass that info on to anyone who may be having a hard time. try the 24 hour ones first. but thanks agin ex for the info. it really helped.marcia

Yes, it is comparable...But probably a bit stronger than what you've been taking. The problem with morphine sulfate is that when taken orally, it has poor bioavailability....Meaning it takes more to reach the same level of pain control as other meds. Oxy, on the other hand, has excellent bioavailability. This is probably why your Doc wrote you for 15mg. It also sounds like your Doc's office doesn't want the liability of LT use of Tylenol.

Also, because it's a different chemical structure, it targets your receptors differently. So, one med may work a bit better than another.

Lastly, if this new med is something you think you may be on for a while, you might ask the pharmacy to order it for you, or stock it...Explain to them your situation.

Best of luck to you.

Regards,

Ex
