Pain increase, increase in meds...running out?

I had to come off my LA medication so PM doctor told me to take more of my hydrocodone. The nurse I spoke to told me to take 1.5 or 2 every six hours. I told her that was not cutting it. I told her I was in soo much pain. So, she spoke to the doctor and he told me to take 2 every five hours. This is exactly what I have been doing, and I am still in pain.

Anyway, I filled my monthly script with the original increase he suggested. It is written as 1-2 tablets every six hours and there are 150 pills.

I am taking six tablets a day (2 every five hours and then in pain the rest of the evening in bed). I am going to run out on day 25.

I know my PM doctor will write me a new script for the correct amount of pills for next month, but do you think my insurance company will fill it before day 30? That will leave me 5 days without pain meds?

I seriously cannot reduce the amount I am taking withotu being in bed and I hvae a 2 and 4 year old at home to care for. Anyone ever had something simular happen?

Thannks!

Yes, they will approve it. Once your pharmacist entered in the directions, it calculates a 25 day supply. 1-2 every 6 hours is 6 per day or 25 days worth. Re-fills, or new scripts go by the previous scripts "days supply."

However, if the Doc changes the directions in any way, then it "voids" the prior days supply altogether, so it's a non issue. I'd be very surprised if you have a problem. At the very least, the pharmacist could call the Doc to ok it, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Regards,

Ex

No problem....Glad I could help.

When one comes to rely on meds like CP do, it's only natural to worry. You are not alone, I can assure you of that.
