cortisone injections

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. Here's the situation: I have a synovial cyst in my spine/neck which is pushing down on a nerve, causing a pinched nerve and refers pain to my Right arm/hand. The pain is getting so bad, I can't do daily activities without being in pain (writing, laundry etc.) I'm also up at night in pain, even when my arm is resting.

My spine specialist is recommending cortisone injections which are given like an epidural. I'm very nervous about getting an injection in my spine but if it gets rid of this pain and gives me my life back it will be worth it.
Has anyone experienced what I have described? (I'm still really confused about how the cyst got there and how this all started) Has anyone had cortisone shots and did they help? How many did you have before the pain was gone?

Re: cortisone injections

I have had several epidurals for neck pain and for me they really did not help much. The cortisone can be hard on your body too. It is really an individual thing and I know that the shots do help some people. The process of the shot itself is not bad. I have done them without sedation and have been fine. Good luck!

Re: cortisone injections

Years ago I had pain in my left arm and nothing helped. I went to see a doctor who gave me shots in my neck - I could hear the crunch crunch as the needle went down but there was only a small amount of discomfort. The shots helped some but eventually I had surgery and they scrapped the arthritis off and see I would be good for years. I have to admit that the surgery did help and I have not had pain since. Now I have cortisone shots in my tailbone for chronic tailbone pain and they really do help me. The problem with my neck did cause the pain in my left arm because after I woke from the surgery I had no pain in my arm. Do not wait too long because I do have a couple of numb fingers because I waited too long to get the help I needed. Good luck.
