Re: pain medicine that does not have acetaminophen

My pain management doctor switched me from Percocet (oxycodone w/acetaminophen) to Oxy IR (immediate-release oxycodone only) because he didn't want my liver to suffer from all the Tylenol. Although they're both strong narcotics that do create dependence, thus I would recommend trying non-narcotic pain meds.

Their's alot of meds without the APAP in it. Their's oxycodone, roxycodone, codiene (yes you can get it without APAP) fentanyl, morphine, ultram, oxycontin, ms contin, kadian, buprenorphine, stadol, methadone, percodan, and their's many more but my brain isnt working too well tonight lol.

Re: pain medicine that does not have acetaminophen

NotPerky,
I am also concerned about my tylenol consumption. I was taking Primalev (oxycodone w/acetaminophen) for BT pain because it had the lowest dose of Tylenol, 300mg vs. 325mg. For some reason the Primalev didn't provide much pain relief, if any. I mentioned this to my doctor and she suggested percocet 10/325. The percocet does work much better IMO, but I am still worried about the APAP. Does the Oxy IR come in 10mg?

Re: pain medicine that does not have acetaminophen

As long as you keep your daily intake of acetaminophen below 3000mg/day and you are completely healthy with no liver/kidney disease then you should not have anything to worry about. Just make sure you get your blood tests every 6 months to check your liver/kidney function

p.s. pain meds that do not contain acetaminophen

oxycodone based - Oxycontin, Oxy IR, Roxicodone

morphine based - morphine sulfate, Kadian, Avinza, MS Contin

Methadone

atypical opiod - Ultram (tramadol), Suboxone

fentanyl based - fentanyl patch, Durgagesic
