New to forum - Question about Nucynta

Hello all! I have been on the Addiction and Dependency forum for a few months while I recovered from my opiate dependency, but because of re-injuring my neck, I'm back in pain again. So, I've decided to start posting here.

When I was back at the Pain Mgt doctor, I mentioned about my extreme withdrawals coming off of the oxycodone and he recommended a brand new drug call Nucynta (tapentadol). I was just approved for release in June of this year. The side effects appear similar to Percocets (less the itching - that's a blessing in itself!!). The doctor told me that I would have less or no withdrawals coming off of this drug compared to the opiates.

Does anyone have experience with this drug and can talk about it? My pharmacy had to order it because they didn't stock it, so I won't get it until later on this week.

In the meantime I have been using Lyrica, Advil and occasional vicodin when the pain is too much and before bed. The rest of the time I just try to work with the pain and eventually end up looking like a walking pretzel until I can get into bed and relieve the pressure on my neck. I have my 6th epidural scheduled in a few days. thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you. Many here have a wide variety of experiences, thus, can offer lots of diverse help and support. Sorry to hear you have pain again.

Yes, the med is very new. There is a recent thread over on the Chronic Pain board.....

Thanks for the link - Yikes! That doesn't sound too encouraging. I do my best to remain active during the day and I have not stayed in bed like the first time (3 months) that I hurt my neck and come evening, I'm in pretty bad pain. I probably need to just drop everything and spend a week in bed to allow the nerve bundle time to heal. Maybe I'll do that after I get the epidural this week. The idea of spending a week in bed is not very high on my list of things I want to do!!
