Change in Medication Question!

I was on hydrocodone-apap (Vicodin) 7.5-750 Tab. I started at a pain management doctor recently and he only prescribes long acting medicines. So, he switched me to the long acting version at 10mg/200mg. I have two questions about this.

One is that it doesn't seem to work nearly as well. Is that possible? I'm set to take it every eight hours.

Next, the dosage, 10mg/200mg. Since this is a long acting medication, does that mean that that dosage is constantly in my system during the eight hours?

Or, does it mean that that is all that is in the entire pill? I'm just curious about how this works.

Thanks.

Re: Change in Medication Question!

Good morning Karen. I have to ask you what LA medication your PM prescribed for you. As of now, Vicodin does not come in LA form. I've also never heard of Vicodin coming in 10/200 (although that doesn't mean there isn't one at that strength). I have heard of 10/325 which would be Norco.

Can you clarify and give a few more details?

If you are taking 10mg Vicodin every 8 hours, I'm sure you aren't getting good coverage as it is an IR medication and it will not last for 8 hours.

Sorry I can't really help, but if you can give more details, you will get lots of helpful information. There are a lot of knowledgable people here willing to lend a hand.

Take care!

I agree with Ozzybug....Can you provide some more details please? What LA med did he put you on. The only 10/200 hydro med would be a compounded version....With a LA binding agent.
