Pain Clinic I go to was closed

Today I got the call I had always dreaded, The clinic called and said they would have to cancel my appt. next week, I asked when I could be seen, they said not at all the clinic has been closed down. Needless to say I am frantic. Can any one please recomend a clinic I could try. Somewhere close to Ypsilanti, MI I would surely appreciate it. I guess I should say I was getting Vicotin HP, Methadone and xanax.

Re: Pain Clinic I go to was closed

This has happened here in Arizona to a few clinics. Call your primary care doctor and any specialists you may be seeing and ask for referrals. You may need to look into something in Ann Arbor given the university hospital and services offered there. You could also look into the U of M and see if they have a Pain Management office that you can call.

Re: Pain Clinic I go to was closed

I am assuming that since your appt was next week, you are soon to run out of medications as well. If the other suggestion of calling your Primary Care Doc, or one of your Specialist Docs, (assuming you have one) fails, or you cannot get in before the week is up, go to the ER and let them know what has happend. Ask them to refer you to some other PM Clinic, and set up the appt for you, and give you enough meds to hold you until the appt. I believe the meds that you are on reqire a "hard" script" meaning you have to get a new Rx every month, and they cannont be called in to a Pharmacy! So this idea of the ER is always a LAST resort, but sadly it IS an option! Good luck to you.

Blessings,

Re: Pain Clinic I go to was closed

Gosh to think that the pain clinic did not help every single ONE of their patients get hooked up with another doctor or some referral of some kind just blows me away. How irresponsible CAN someone be with other's lives. I am so sorry this happened to you! Please make all the calls that you can, explaining your situation. It is very dangerous to stop any meds abruptly! Just throwing you out there to the wolves as I say should be against the law! I would probably even seek out a lawyer! Who knows, if they have heard of this before they probably know the laws to protect you, meaning that someone must help you! I am SO sorry this happened to you!

Re: Pain Clinic I go to was closed

Please note that a sudden closure like this is likely a closure by the DEA. These are becoming more common. They are sudden closures and thus no referrals or pre-notification of closure occurs. What would be great is if the DEA had a list of possible alternative providers.

6 months ago my pain pharmacy, and the pain clinic next door, were raided by the DEA and closed the day I went to get my meds. It was justifiable given what I read later (Rx for people that didn't exist, no treatment records, the clinic and pharmacy were working together in deception, etc) but it leaves patients without resources. Luckily I didn't use the clinic, just the pharmacy, so I called my PM doc and explained I'd be shifting to Walgreens for all my pain meds. My PM office did some investigation and said it was a DEA closure.

Since it was a DEA closure, they were probably ordered not to have any contact with patients/customers. That's standard procedure in a forced closure situation. On top of that, patient records were probably siezed on the spot, so they'd have no way of notifying anybody. While I applaud the DEA for shutting down the bad guys, they have been known to go after legitimate doctors/pharmacies, causing one big mess for everybody concerned. Any collusion ought to be dealt with to the harshest extent of the law. Situations like that do nothing but harm CP patients in everyway possible, and it gives the public some strong reinforcement in their belief that CP patients are simply drug-seeking addicts. We don't need any reinforcement of that irrational belief; there's enough of that as it is.
