Hi anyone on this board from UK, I would like to have some details about pain patches, name, if they are available here etc.

Hi Marlot, The patches are called Duragesic and the active ingredicant is a synthetic opiate called Fentanyl.

Ughhhh Duragesic. I have been on Duragesic for 4 months. I started at 25 mcg/hr patches and am currently on two 100 mcg/hr patches. It's like being drunk all the time. I have to take phenergen because the Duragesic makes me vomit. I take 2 Phenergan tablets a day and still vomit a lot - I've lost a lot of weight. However, for me, the Duragesic is the only thing I could find that would relieve my pain (I have cervical spinal stenosis and am going in for surgery). My doc tried numerous other prescriptions before Duragesic (luckily he didnt have a problem prescribing it or increasing the dose as I needed it). As your body acclimates to the increased level of fentanyl, the level must be increased to achieve the same level of relief. Side effects aren't too bad - watch for slowed breathing tho, as that is the most serious. Your breathing can drop below 8 respirations/minute and it is obviously fatal. Also, it sedates you and you fall asleep a lot (sometimes without warning).

If you need serious, long term relief - check into the Duragesic patches. There is a risk of addiction, as there is with any pain management medication.

If you have gone from 25 to 200 in only 4 months does this mean you have leveled off or does your pm doc think you will have to increase?
