IDET after positive discogram - Pain Management Message Board

Hi,Anyone out there ever had an IDET procedure?Had a discogram on my L3/4 4/5 5/s1 and it was painful..Doc is doing this to determine if the IDET is good for me..I was recommend for fusion however I thought that I would try this first .Has anyone had it before and if so how are the results...

I hope this helps. I had IDET almost 2 years ago with very much success. I have several "bad disks" in my neck and low back. I am not interested in having surgery at my age, so the best thing is to manage the pain without invasive procedures.
I had a discogram on my low back and the Doc determined IDET may work on L5-S1, which was the worst disk, also the one causing most of my low back pain.
The IDET procedure was simple, I had pain for about 2 months afterwords, but then it started to subside. 2 years later, no regrets and about 75% pain relieved in low back. Very much worth it.

Hi Top,
I had an IDET about 2 years ago and i have to tell ya it made me worse! I had a torn disc and the IDET made thr tear alot worse. I hope your's turns out well. It sure beats a fusion! I had to end up with a fusion 360 L5S1 with hardware! And boy it was alot harder to get over.

hI,tHANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.wENT FOR A FOLLOW UP FOR THE DISCOGRAM.tHE DOC TOLD ME THAT 3 DISCS HURT ME AND BOY DID THEY.hE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL TEARS IN L/5-S/1..hE SAID THAT IDET WOULD PROBABLY NOT HELP DUE TO OTHER DISCS HURTING.I WAS REALLY HOPING THAT HE WOULD DO IT.HE WANTS ME TO SEE A NEURO WHO WORKS WITH HIM ON THE IDET TO SEE WHAT HE SAYS & HE ALSO MENTIONED THE FUSION WORD.i DON'T UNDERSTAND,IF ONE DISC HAD A LOT OF TEARS WHY CAN'T HE DO THE IDET.WERE MORE THAN 1 DISC HURTING YOU ON THE DISCOGRAM...LET ME KNOW BECAUSE I DON'T WANT FUSION SURGERY...THANKS

I have researched IDET extensively in the past six months. I had IDET done 4 days ago for an annulus tear at L4-5. I also had the discogram and had two painful disks, with 4-5 being the worst. A large majority of the info out there suggests that instances in which a patient has > 2 levels, they are poor candidates for the procedure. Because multiple levels are more difficult to keep immobilized, it's usually not an option. The restrictions post IDET are very severe, but if I can avoid the fusion, I'm happy. The IDET is also usually used for one tear not several, which is probably what complicates your situation. Hope you find the answers you need. Let me know if you have questions I can answer for you.
