Epidurals - Pain Management Message Board

Do these thing help anyone? I have heard such negative reactions about them from everyone on here and the people I know, if this is true, why are they still doing the blasted things? And they hurt too? Sheesh. I am glad my neuro decided they weren't for neck issues, because I wouldn't do them anyway!!

My freind had one done by an anesthesilogist with a floroscope and now problems. The first one really worked. It does seem that many have problems both with the way the sick you and with the stroids. I wouldn't do it myelf. They can be dangerous. Thay act like they are risk free which isn't true.

I have had 2 epidural steroid injections to relieve pain associated with cervical spinal stenosis. The first one was great - relieved all of my pain for 2 months. The pain returned and I had a 2nd epidural. This one relieved some of the pain and all of the associated 'stiffness'. I had different doctors both times - they were with the same practice. The first one was great - I didnt feel a thing while he was doing it. The second one... well I hate him. I felt 'electricity' down both arms and it basically hurt like hell. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the success of the first compared to the second. Either way - my only option now is for surgery due to new complications. Some people receive full relieve from epidurals - some receive no relief. It's your choice if you want it done but have it done by a board certified anesthesiologist who does pain management.

My husband has had 17 over the course of 5 years and they helped him tremendously. Since he has reached his lifetime limit, his quality of life has gone down to zero. He prays every day for just one more shot so he can have 3 months pain free.
