how are injections given - Pain Management Message Board

the thought of having a needle in my back scares the heck out of me. from what i have read, it seems that most people are given sedation of some sort. i guess general is out of the question,or is it? is there a lot of pain after the injection? i have read that some people get terrible headaches, is that common?
any info on injections, especially at the thorasic aread would be very helpful. i have HNP at the T7/8 and just wonder if these injections will help-the meds sure are not. (vicoden) the neuro-surgeon says this is a very uncommon area to have this problem.

For my injections I was sedated as they don't want you to be moving around while they try to do the procedure. After that you recover for awhile then they suggest someone drive you home as sometimes you are a little out of it still. I had a little pain at the site where they went in but nothing that needed some sort of extra pain meds. Good Luck.

The injections are not as bad as our minds make them out to be... TRUST ME

I had the same problem hehe...I've now had about 8 total plus a discogram which hurt like crazy but that's a whole diff. ballpark.

All you feel is pressure and they give you some local anestesia... there is no real pain with it(at least mine).

You just have to give it a shot because for some people it really makes the difference in pain. Convince yourself that you won't get hurt or anything and just go for it
