I have been on Neurontin,Topomax,Celexa,and now Vioxx. All have given me too many side effects or just didn't work. What else is out there? I have to call my DR

in the morn as she left a message on my machine. OH BOY just who I wanted to talk to.

Dear Irish:

Could you let me know what kind of condition you suffer from? I have fibro and AS, and have been recently put on methadone. After trying about a million different NSAIDS and Cox-2's with gastly side effects, I have finally found a med combo that works for me. I take Methadone, Ultram, Nortryptiline, and Flexeril. I like the methadone rather than some of the shorter acting narcotics, and it dosen't make you feel "loopy." The doctor who put me on it says that it dosen't pose the addiction risk as much as things like Vicoden do. It takes a long time to build a tolerance to it and it is long acting. You don't get the ups and downs like you do with hydro or oxy. So far I have been very pleased with it, plus it is very cheap. Take care and be well.

I had carpal tunnel surgery on R wrist in May 01. Didn't work out. Then in Jan 02 I fell on both wrists at work. Been having steadly increasing pain and other problems with them. I take Amitriptyline 100 mg at night but I think that is starting to lose its effect. Use to zonk me out now I might as well just have the water. Have also had several nerve blocks none worked for very long. Another worthless med is Roxicet (5 mg percocet and 325 mg whatever)for the pain. DR started me on Bextra. Shes my pain DR I see her again in 9 days. Hope my sanity stays. My ankles swelled so bad from that Vioxx that my knees and ankles were hurting so bad I couldn't even get out of bed most of the day. I feel like I'm falling apart.

Neurontin,Celebrex,Vioxx,all didn't work or had side effects like increase in swelling,weight gain. Got so bad on Vioxx I couldn't get out of bed for two days. Ankles hurt so bad. Bextra had helped a little with the swelling in my ankles but wrists still swell.

I'd like a drug that helps the pain and swelling. I don't expect it to be perfect I'll put up with some side effects. I don't even expect to be totally pain free. But when it seems the solution to a problem either doesn't work or makes everything worse that is what I don't want. Why take a med or whatever that doesn't work? I don't want to be putting chemicals or natural herbs into me if it doesn't work.

Dear Fibro, two things...first,besides methadone,Oxycontin,MScontin and Hydromorphone Contin are all long acting pain medications to chose from. Second, the word "Addiction" does not apply to those of us suffering from chronic pain. We are dependent on our medication,not "addicted". Addiction is a psychological term meaning to "Crave" a drug to get "High" or to "Seek out" a drug at all moral cost.We are dependant on our medication,as is a diabetic is dependant on insulin or an asthma patient is dependant on steroids or one who is depressed is dependant on benzo's. Our body depends on the medication for pain relief and if we stop we go into withdrawl, not because we are "addicted,but because we are dependant. Medical studies show that only 3 out of every 1,000 chronic pain patients ever show tendencies of drug addiction! Get your info correct before you make a statement on the internet!
