I seen my neuro-surg today.I have been under his care for a little over a year.He just in the last 4 months finally movd me up to Lortab 10,every 8-12 hours.Before that it was Loracet Plus 7.5.Well I told him today that there was to much of a lapse.I didn't ask for anything stronger,just maybe every 6 hours would help.He started babbling about how addictive they were,and blah blah blah...I said well I guess I would rather be addicted than in constant pain!! He said refer her to Dr.SO and SO for a PM consult.They may put you on methadone.What in the heck is that? I thought that it was for people DT'ing. He did give me my 90 pills,with 1 refill until I can get to see the PM doc.I just wonder what will happen when I go to see this Doc.What should I tell the PM doc? My Neuro has me paranoid now.What should I do? My gosh my 90 a month was better than nothing.

hi!I don't understand why all these dr.'s go on about addiction. Personally I don't feel that there is such thing as addiction in peolpe that are in pain all the time. No one should have to live in pain when there is so much out there to help. Methadone is not just used for d'ting. It is also used for people in pain.

Make sure your dr. monitors your closely while you are usind the methadone

Huntingfor, ask your Dr. about trying MScontin(Morphine Sulfate Continuous release)or Oxycontin(Oxycodone Continuous release) both are long lasting(8-12hrs) and will give you extended pain relief! Its good to have options...don't let your Doctors push methodone on you if you don't feel comfortable with it! Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies!
I have been researching methadone,and found out it is a VERY strong narcotic!
Not something I am wanting.
I am satisfied with my Lortab 10,I just need it more often.I don't get complete relief with it,but it makes things tolerable.I just wanted to go from every 8 hours to every 4-6 hours.
Should I tell PM doc this???

Let him know what works best for YOU. We are all individuals with different types of pain. Yes, you can get addicted, or build up a tolerance. But not as badly as those taking just for recreation.The problem, even with those with chronic pain is that eventually you need more to get the same pain relief.
Don't let him talk you into Methodone if you are not comfortable with it!
