Post ??question about meds??

hey have not posted on here in a few weeks. taking care of my 6 month old is enough, yet alone trying to sit at the computer. anywany i am on oxycontin 20mg/ 3 x day with a fourth to take with one of the 3 if i have bad pain. i also have the coated napraxen so it is easier on your stomach. My question is can i take either tylenol or motrin with it. i do not take the napraxen everyday because of my stomach.but i know it is a anti inflamatory, so can i take both my scrips and tylenol or motrin????????

I am kinda lost here...I get the fact you are on 20mg of oxycontin 3 times a day. Now you say a 4th to take if you need it..a 4th oxycontin? Is the Naproxen your breakthrough med? Usually when people are on oxycontin or any time release med they have a breakthrough med whether it be percocet, oxy ir, morphine ir, or it can be a NSAID like Naproxen if your stomach can handle it. When I was on oxycontin I was on 20mg twice a day with percocet 5mg for BT one tab 4 times a day. I have since went off the oxycontin and am just on the instant release meds my PM doc put me on. Oxy ir 10mg 3 times a day and Percocet one twice a day to be used in conjunction instead of taking 10mg 5 times a day I use the percs at 3pm and 7pm.
I would think what your on should maybe have a better BT med and then you could still use the Naproxen as well. I would asume you could still use advil or something untill you talk to your doc. Take care and good luck.
Autumn.

hey Autumn Angel sorry to sound confusing. i took 2 20 mg oxycontins twice a day. the reason for that was if i was not in that much pain i could just take one. well my pm dr. came up wth the idea to take 1 20 mg 3 times a day. and either in the morning or at night i could take 2 at once(40 mg).i usually do not have to take it wich works out well for, unlike so many poor back pain people i read about in hear that run out early. but it takes obediance, because i know if i take 2 at a time i could get more pain relief. but i figure the less i can take now could be better later on in life, im only 23 and have read so many stories on people's tolerance level rising. and i really do not want to add anymore narcotics rite now. 3 years ago when this started i went to all sorts of drs. (head drs., etc, now i just see 2, my family dr, and my pm, both on a monthly basis.)i see others (i.e. surgeons, pts, message therapist, occassionally, new drs=new ideas)

Hi Zoey,

You are doing it right by the way you are takeing the meds. You should only take what you need because of the tolarence issue you will have regardless of what you take. Its just that the tolerance won't come on as fast the way you are doing. Plus you won't have to worry about running out which is always a bad thing to do. I have never ran out early as well.

I don't see any harm in takeing tylenol every so often. Just don't use it to regulary because over time it can cause great harm to the liver. I wouldn't however take advil with the napraxsen. These together can really eat up the stomach fast, which is not a good idea. But you should talk to your dcotor and get their advice as well. Maybe they can give you something better for those BT pains that will be there from time to time. Any how good luck in your pain management and welcome to the boards....

Matt
